YouTube Expands Free Picture-in-Picture (PiP) to iOS and Android Users Worldwide

YouTube has begun rolling out its picture-in-picture (PiP) feature for free to users across the globe on both Android and iOS devices. This update allows viewers to watch videos in a small floating window while using other apps, making multitasking easier and more seamless.

Previously, PiP was largely restricted to premium subscribers or limited regions. With this global expansion, free users can now enjoy the feature without needing a subscription, marking a significant shift in YouTube’s accessibility strategy.

However, there are some limitations. Picture-in-picture will primarily be available for standard video content, while music videos and background playback remain exclusive to YouTube’s paid plans.

The rollout is happening gradually, meaning some users may receive the feature later than others. Once fully implemented, it is expected to enhance user experience by allowing smoother multitasking and more flexible content consumption.
